Laurel Lakes Cosmetic Dentistry's Policy on X-Ray Films
Laurel, Columbia, Fulton and Silver Spring, Maryland
Our practice takes diagnostic x-ray films only when necessary and ongoing films according to the recommended standards of the American Dental Association. All of the dental x-ray units in our office are digital which means that a film sensor attached to a computer acquires an image which can be read off of a computer screen. There are many advantages of digital x-ray technology such as immediate image capture without chemicals, large viewing size, reduction of up to 90% of radiation exposure for in-the-mouth scanned images.
In addition to our intra-oral images, we also utilize an extra-oral digital x-ray camera called the New Tom VGI. This uses a cone-shaped beam to generate far more accurate diagnostic images that improve our ability to treatment plan for general dentistry, dental implants, orthodontic development, sleep/airway issues, and TMJ. This state-of-the-art machine employs “Safe Beam Technology” in that it senses the bone density of the patient and reduces exposure up to 40% relative to comparable technology.
